What can people expect in your Mighty classes?
Spontaneity! I like to look around the room and see who has shown up and change the class plan to meet the student’s needs. I love how Mighty Yogis are always game to try something new!
Emma began practicing yoga in 1999 and has been teaching for seven years. Her practice deepened when she began to live and work at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in the Berkshires, where she also received her teaching certification. During her training, her primary instructors were Steven Hartman and Carolyn Lundeen, and while living at Kripalu she was given the opportunity to study with all of the brilliant teachers that lead workshops and seminars there. Classes with Emma are geared toward all levels so that beginners will feel comfortable and more experienced practitioners can still feel challenged. Most recently, Emma published a book, The Joy of Yoga: Fifty Sequences for Your Home and Studio Practice, which has been translated into Dutch, German, Italian, Chinese, and Spanish. She is currently at work at her follow-up book, which will include yoga sequences for advanced practitioners.
We asked Emma:
Why do you practice yoga? To keep me sane! I can be really obsessive– yoga reminds me that I can’t control everything, even though it can be hard not to try!
What fuels you? My amazing Ithaca community, taking hikes around the gorges, and power naps.
Emma’s favorite piece of wisdom:
Even after all this time,
the sun never says to the earth,
“You owe me.”
Look what happens with a love like that.
It lights the whole sky.
