Mighty Yogi of the Month: December 2015

Name: Kenny Makosch

Occupation:  Systems Engineer

Favorite yoga pose: Warrior 3

Yoga is… my escape pod to slow down and reset.

What do you love most about yoga? I love the general mindset of yoga. The fact that it is so very welcoming to everyone, unintimidating, unbiased, inspiring, rejuvenating and challenging. It’s also the best value from a time perspective. Where else can you chill your mind and body, take the time to stretch and build strength all in one sitting?

What fuels you? Being with family and friends, the excitement of new experiences, not feeling my age, achieving goals and wine at 5.

My NON-guilty pleasure is… listening to some awesome audio books during my 30+ minute commute to work.

What makes you Mighty? Always attempting to do the right thing, paying attention to the small things, being grateful for everything, helping out when needed, saying “yes” to trying new things and continuously setting new challenging and interesting goals.

What’s your yoga story? How did you start practicing? I tried yoga once in college, but I didn’t have the patience back then and chose not to take it seriously. I thought I wasn’t flexible enough and never thought of it as a guy thing. Then 15 years later after continuously hearing my wife rave about how awesome yoga was, I decided to join her for a class. Basically everything that I love about yoga today happened that day.

If you had a super power what would it be and why? I guess I wish I was super smart (but not overly serious) and could help solve many of the world’s issues (energy, hunger, etc.).

When I wake up in the morning, I always do these two things… wish I worked for myself and that the dog could take herself out.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? To not wait until retirement to travel and have fun and to not stress about things you have no control over.
