What can people expect in your Mighty classes?

In Heather’s classes you’ll keep both the breath and body moving, tuning into that balance to know when to do less and when to do more. She always makes sure there’s at least a little bit of fun, or even [gasp!] a laugh in every class.

About Heather:

Heather completed her 200-hour teacher training with Sean and Karen Conley of Amazing Yoga in Pittsburgh, PA and is currently studying with Liz Heffernan for certification at the 500-hour level. She moved to Ithaca after completing her PhD in Engineering and took a job as an energy efficiency consultant. When her full-time job left her with too much time on her hands, she opened Mighty Yoga in Ithaca to expand the practice of yoga in the community. Six years, two kids and a second studio later, she wonders where all that free time went! Heather relocated to Hanover, NH with her family in 2012. Though it was difficult to leave Ithaca (and Mighty, her first baby!), she gets back to visit and teach a class or two whenever she can.

We asked Heather:

Why do you practice yoga?

I started a regular yoga practice as a way to stay in shape after retiring from my time as an elite rower. It soon evolved from exercise into a way to relieve stress during the most intense parts of grad school. These days it helps to ground me when I’m overwhelmed with everything going on in my world – working as an energy efficiency engineer, owning two yoga studios, and being a mother of two energy-filled boys.

What fuels you?

Snuggling with my boys, fascinating conversations with my three-year-old – you never know what’s going to come up – spending time outside, and smoothies.

Heather's favorite piece of wisdom:

“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs are people who have come alive.” – Howard Thurman
