Favorite yoga pose: Side plank and all things hip opening.
Yoga is... medicine. I have struggled with chronic back and hip pain since a bad car accident in my early 20’s. Strengthening my back and core has done more for my pain than any modern medicine or chiropractic work.
What do you love most about yoga? Being physically challenged while being completely in the present moment.
What do you like to do off the yoga mat? I’ve been baking professionally for the past 7 years. I currently work full time at Gimme! Coffee’s bakery. When I’m not in the kitchen, I like to go on long hikes, tend to my veggie and herb garden, read delicious fiction, pet dogs (all animals, actually), and explore the Finger Lakes.
What fuels you? I keep an updated list on my fridge of my personal goals. Some are small (like get a haircut, buy new sneakers) and some are large (adopt a dog, buy a house). It keeps me focused and motivated.
My NON-guilty pleasure is... eating rice noodles and peanut sauce more than the average human being, listening to 90’s hip-hop, visiting Farm Sanctuary as many times as possible each summer.
What’s your yoga story? How did you start practicing? After moving to Ithaca 4 years ago, some friends persuaded me to take a class at Mighty. Up until that point I had only done yoga DVD’s at home and felt intimidated by the thought of joining a studio. I was going through a divorce at the time and Mighty gave me a safe place to let go and sweat out the negativity. Sometimes it was where I simply needed a good cry on my mat in child’s pose. The teachers always seemed to have the exact sage advice I needed to hear. I’m a “lifer” for sure.
What's the best advice you've ever received? “It’s not about the mistake, it’s about the recovery.”
