What can people expect in your Mighty classes?
Come with a sense of adventure, and you’ll enjoy fluid, creative and energizing movements that remind you that you are capable of most anything! We’ll cultivate an engaged breath, whether it’s through specific pranayama or just simple attention to the breath. I thread in simple meditation practices to help nurture a fully balanced experience —from body to mind to heart—on your mat. And I will likely throw in a few quirky (read: amusing, not always logical!) jokes and stories from my personal experiences, all with the intention to make it easier to laugh and illuminate life’s many intriguing lessons.
Zainab has been teaching since 2007, and she currently guides all levels of Vinyasa Flow in and around Ithaca, NY. Her classes feature several styles & traditions including Prana Vinyasa Flow, Ashtanga, & Viniyoga, and they bring attention to anatomy, alignment and movement. She enjoys the mindfulness, physical awareness and playful adventure one can find in yoga and strives to integrate these elements, along with humor and kindness, into her classes. Zainab has happily studied with and is eternally grateful to Prana Vinyasa Flow founder Shiva Rea and the Prana Flow tribe in addition to her foundational teachers Lisa Bennett Matkin and Charles Matkin. Zainab is an E-RYT 200 certified instructor and is 300hr-certified in Prana Vinyasa Flow. She remains a student of life and has also published writings in media, including DoYouYoga.com, Fit Yoga, Women’s eNews, and Zink magazine.
We asked Zainab:
Why do you practice yoga?
This was the first movement practice that challenged me to be present, and, I’m not going to lie... it also appeals to my secret wish to be a ninja! However, over time, this practice not only fulfilled my desire to move with grace and power, but also became a way for me to make sense of my life and the world.
What fuels you?
Love, smiles and hugs, holding my husband’s hand, family and friendships, snuggling with my dog, sunshine, lakes and oceans, flowers, breath, crow and handstands or cartwheels (depends on the day), movement and dancing, full moons and starry nights, a delicious glass of wine or cup of chai, peanut butter cookies, cake frosting (buttercream, please), coconut smoothies, being curled under a blanket in front of a warming fire, & lastly, MORE LOVE!
Zainab’s favorite piece of wisdom:
"And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
