Liza Gabriel

Liza taught at Mighty from 2012 - 2019 and is excited to be back!  Liza started practicing yoga in 2003 to alleviate acute and chronic back pain. For a long time, Liza loved yoga because of the strength and discipline it requires. Years later, and following multiple surgeries and health complications, she has come to embrace and rely on the softness and creativity of the practice just as much as its strength. Today, yoga teaches Liza to be less rigid and more open to the possibilities of the mind and body through movement, breath, and trusting oneself – all elements she incorporates into her classes.

Liza teaches a “progressive vinyasa flow” style, which is a dynamic class where poses gradually increase in intensity and complexity, linking breath and movement. This sequencing enables the body to experience a wider range of strength and flexibility. Her classes are creative and mindful of alignment and an individual’s body needs. Liza completed a 200-HR Vinyasa Flow Certification in 2007 at Tranquil Space in Washington, DC., a 200-HR Ashtanga Yoga Certification from It’s Yoga in Puerto Rico in 2012, a 50-HR Rocket Yoga Teacher Training with David Kyle in 2015, and an Inversions Teacher Training at Laughing Lotus in NYC in 2018.

Besides teaching yoga, Liza manages Wellspring Forest Farm with her partner Steve in Trumansburg, on the unceded land of the Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫʼ people. She works as a consultant supporting nonprofits in their antiracism and equity work and is the editor of NOFA’s The Natural Farmer Magazine. She is the mama to two littles, Maiya and Aydin, and in any spare time, can be found hiking with her dog Reishi or on her stand-up paddle board.
